Boy, oh, boy. How do I even start? Never has a piece of literature had me in a chokehold the way this one does, and I don’t think I will ever get free. What sort of ridiculous talent must a person possess to have me so wrapped up in their fictional characters’ lives that I feel like I was there and like I’ve lived fifteen years in one short week from the beginning of Flock to the end of The Finish Line. I love books that draw me in and make me connect with the characters on such a deep level that it feels like I am living the story alongside them. I have not been able to stop thinking about this series since I finished it.
These books are honestly incredible and they definitely destroyed me emotionally. I don’t want to give too much away and I will not put spoilers in my overall summary and thoughts on the series. I will make a separate post at a later time that is full of spoilers and has my complete thoughts and opinions on everything that happened. I flew through these books so quickly. It didn’t take me more than two or three days to read each one. I probably would have finished them even quicker if I had the opportunity to sit down and do nothing but read because I did not want to put them down.
I read them on my Kindle until I got to the last book, then I switched between listening to the audiobook and reading, so I could continue the story even when I couldn’t sit down and read. Sometimes audiobooks ruin a book for me, but that is absolutely not the case with this one. I HIGHLY recommend listening to the audiobooks if you can. There are two narrators, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. Joe does the male characters, and Maxine does the female characters instead of one narrator trying to do everyone’s voice throughout the whole series. The narrators were phenomenal! They aren’t simply reading the books to you, they are acting. You can hear the emotion in their voice and it truly pulls you into the story even more.
Flock is book one in the series and I’d have to say maybe the most tame as far as emotional rollercoasters go. There is definitely spiciness, but not a whole lot of heartbreak until right at the end. Cecelia is the female main character, and it starts off with her being twenty-six years old during the prologue. Chapter one goes back to when she was nineteen and going to stay at her father’s house in Triple Falls for a year. During book one, she meets some incredibly attractive men(aren’t they always). Sean, Dominic, and Tyler all have a lot of secrets and she hates being left in the dark, but she is for the most part. We watch her relationships and her character develop while she takes a little more risks and says yes to more things than she’s used to. The end of the book had me upset with Sean and Dominic, but nothing could prepare me for book two.
Exodus is the second book in the series and it is a heartbreaker. I have never had a book take a sledgehammer to my heart quite like this one. During the first half of the book, I get a little annoyed with Cecelia because she’s making some decisions that I don’t fully agree with or understand. We meet another ridiculously attractive man in this book. When Tobias is first introduced he is infuriating, to say the least. Chapter twenty-five is when my heart is shattered all over the place. There is no picking up the pieces. I could not stop thinking about what happened for the rest of the series. After this particular incident, it goes back to twenty-six-year-old Cecelia and we find out some of what she’s been up to for the last six years. She goes back to Triple Falls and is face-to-face with her past from the year she spent at her father’s house and it is brutal. Just be prepared to cry while reading this book because it is an emotional rollercoaster.
The Finish Line is book three and it healed my heart a little from the damage that was done in the previous book. I love that we get a peek into another character’s mind and their point of view during this last book. We also get some heartwarming and not-so-heartwarming flashbacks to some of the men in the story way before they ever met Cecelia. We get to see some of Sean, Dominc, Tyler, and Tobias’s past and it gives us a little more insight into other characters instead of just Cecelia and what she’s feeling. I really enjoyed being able to find out more about them and how they became the people they are. I think everything was wrapped up nicely and seeing the woman Cecelia grew into after all that she endured was amazing. I feel like most of the characters had a lot of growth and ended up with their own version of a happily ever after by the end. You can tell that while they did grow up over the course of the series, they still stayed themselves and accomplished what they wanted to accomplish. The last book ends fifteen years after Cecelia’s year at her father’s house, so there are a few time jumps, but the pacing and how it’s written work perfectly for the story.
One Last Rainy Day is the newest book in a spinoff series called the Ravenhood Legacy Series and it will be from Dominic’s point of view. I am so excited to read this one because Dominic is my absolute favorite character. I think there is so much more to him than what we see from Cecelia’s limited point of view, so I’m sure that a book from his point of view is going to be amazing. It comes out on July 27, 2023, so we have one week and one day until it is released. I will definitely do another post with my thoughts about it once I finish reading.
The whole series is truly a wild ride and will definitely tug at your heartstrings. This is absolutely not a plain fluffy romance, that is for sure. It definitely focuses heavily on the romantic lives of Cecelia and the other characters, but there are also all of the secrets you come to find out, what they are involved in, how it came to be, and even a little bit of fast cars and action. We get to experience the characters dealing with some heavy, powerful emotions and tough situations, and then see how they come out on the other side of it. It is AMAZING, and I one hundred percent recommend reading it! (Side note: It definitely has smut. Just warning anyone that may not be aware of that, so you aren’t surprised when you read it.)
